SLJ Day 5 Activity 3

For this activity, please choose one person (a changemaker) and read all about them.
On your blog, provide us with:
  1. The name of the person
  2. A description of the work they do/have done
  3. An explanation of how they/their work has had an impact on the lives of others

For this activity I have chosen to write about Dame Julie Christie.

Dame Julie Christie is famous for bringing reality T.V to New Zealand and the rest of the world. She has created lots of T.V show concepts and has been on some as well. She has produced and directed T.V shows such as The Chair, Game Of Two Halves, Trading Places to name a few. She created the original Celebrity Treasure Island which was brought back recently and she help direct it & help the new producer. I also know this  information because I was lucky enough to meet her because she works with my Mum.

Dame Julie Christies work has impacted lots of kiwis & the whole world, because who doesn't love to sit down and watch T.V. As I said before she brought reality T.V to New Zealand and the whole world. She was born, raised and went to school in Greymouth and is an inspiration to all West Coasters.

Dame Christie said she initially thought "long and hard" before accepting the honour.Julie Christie became a Dame Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit on Wednesday

SLJ Day 5 Activity 1: National Treasure

For this activity, we would like to learn more about the things that are important to you.
On your blog, please share three things that you treasure and say why they are treasures to you.

  1.  A loving, caring & supportive family
I treasure having a family because I know some kids might not have a caring family, or their parents might not be together.  Thats why I treasure having a loving, caring, supportive family
  2. Great friends
I treasure having friends in genral but I know some people might say they are 'friends' with someone then stab them in the back. Thats why I'm thankful for my friends that laugh at my unfunny jokes and always have my back.
  3. My pets & animals
I treasure having pets because I know some kids aren't lucky enough to own pets. I also treasure animals because they are great company and most of them are adorable.

SLJ Day 4 Activity 3: Worth Her Weight In Gold

For this activity, imagine that you were asked to create a travel brochure for Tonga (or a country that is important to you). On the brochure, include lots of great tips about what to see and do in the country.
On your blog, post your finished copy of your brochure.
For this activity I have chosen to make a brochure about Rarotonga. I haven't been there before but my parents have been there before, they said it was lots of fun and I would like to go there one day.

SLJ Day 4 Activity 2: What's In A Name?

For this activity, imagine that you were allowed to change your name to anything that you wanted.
On your blog, tell us what you would change your name to and why you would choose that name.
Personally I wouldn't change my name because I like it and I think Bridget suits me. If I had to change my name I would probably change it to Casey. I've always liked the name Casey and when I was younger I named my bunny Casey and one of my chickens Casey. But I still like my name and don't want to change it.

SLJ Day 4 Activity 1: Making A Racket

For this activity, watch these videos about Serena and Venus Williams.
On your blog, tell us three things that you learned from watching these videos, as well as one thing you would still like to know.
Here is 3 of the things I learnt:
  1. That men get paid heaps more than women in sports
  2. Serena Williams has won 23 grand slams and earned $80M during her career
  3. Novak Djokovic is the highest paid male and has won only 12 grand slams and has won over $100M

SLJ Day 3 Activity 3: Achieving Our Dreams

For this activity, choose a friend or family member and ask them what their dream job would be. Please then brainstorm six ways in which you could support them in achieving their dream job.
On your blog, present your ideas as a poster or infographic.
For this activity I asked my brother Hamish, he didn't take this seriously at first but I finally got an answer and he wants to be a teacher. To help him I would do these things:

  1. Be kind
  2. Help him in any way I can
  3. Give him motivation to keep going if he feels like giving up
  4. Be supportive
  5. Give him cookies to keep him motivated
  6. Push him to work hard

SLJ Day 3 Activity 2: Defying The Odds

For this activity, we would like you to imagine that you had the chance to interview LeBron James, Steven Adams or another basketball player of your choice.
On your blog, tell us who you would interview and then provide a list of five questions that you would like to ask your chosen player.
For this activity I would choose to interview Steven Adams
  1. How did you become such a great basketball player and be a big sports star?
  2. What's it like living in America?
  3. Who/What inspired you to start playing basketball?
  4. What was it like growing up in Rotorua?
  5. Do you have any advice for new basketball players?

SLJ Day 3 Activity 1: Team Players

For this activity, let’s imagine that you could be a superhero for a day. What three superpowers would you most like to have?
On your blog, please list the three superpowers, tell us why you have chosen each one, and tell us what you are going to do with them.

  • Super Speed
  • Invisibilty
  • Flying

With my super speed I would use it to get places quicker and prank people by tapping them on the shoulder and running away super fast. I would use my invisibilty to prank people and scare them, like saying their name and they would not know where I am. I would use my flying ability to fly places and it just seems cool to be able to fly and I have always wanted to be able to fly.

SLJ Day 2 Activity 3: Miracle On The Hudson

For this activity, we would like to hear about a time when you, or someone you know, was brave like Sully.
On your blog, recount a time when you (or someone else you know) did something brave.
I'm not really sure if this is "brave" but this year I got 3 teeth pulled out (Side note: I hate the dentist) they did numb my mouth and gums but there was a sharp pain every time one got pulled out. I didn't feel some of them come out but my gums kept bleeding for atleast 10 minutes. I had to get these teeth pulled out because my adult teeth were growing over top. I found it really hard to swallow at first but I got used to it. My dentist experience wasn't that bad as my brothers who had to get 6 teeth removed and one was a really big tooth that had a weird hook off his tooth inside his gums. So I guess my brother and I both did some brave things this year.

SLJ Day 2 Activity 2: One Small Step For Man

For this activity, let’s imagine that you were Neil Armstrong. On your blog, write a short poem describing how you felt when you first set foot on the moon.

For this activity I have chosen to try write a Cinquain poem, I have never done a poem like this before so it might not be the best.

SLJ Day 1 Activity 3: Scaling New Heights

For this activity, please select a charity that you are interested in. You may choose your own or use one from our list (below). Read about the charity.
On your blog, write a short explanation of what the charity does.

The charity I chose is the SPCA, SPCA stands for Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The SPCA is a charity that helps animals in need and looks after them. The SPCA helps protect over 40,000 animals in New Zealand every year. They help protect animals that are injured, sick, abused or abandoned by their owner. Personally I think the SPCA is a great charity because I am a big animal lover.

SLJ Day 1 Activity 2: Discovering Aotearoa

For this activity we would like you to think about your own experiences and your own cultural background. Where does your family come from? Do they come from Europe like Abel Tasman, Polynesia like Kupe, or somewhere else?
On your blog, please tell us about your cultural background. Where do you and your family come from?
My Mums ancestors came from England and my Grandad came to New Zealand from England in the early 1950's when he was 4. My Mums Mum was born in New Zealand and so was she. My Dads parents were born in New Zealand and so was he, I'm not sure about my other relatives further back. My history might be kind of boring, but I know I'm from New Zealand

SLJ Day 1 Activity 1: Setting Sail

For this activity, make a list of ten food items that you could take with you. Please think carefully about what you will take as you won’t have access to a refrigerator or freezer while at sea. Please explain why you would select each item.
On your blog, post your list of 10 food items you would take on an ocean voyage and the reasons why you chose these items.
1. Canned Spaghetti & A Can Opener, I would bring canned spaghetti because you can eat it cold and it lasts a long time
2. Dried Beef, I would bring dried beef because it would last longer than normal meat and doesn't require cooking or a fridge.
3. Preserved Fruit, I would bring preserved fruit such as pears, apples, bananas etc for later on in my journey. Also I would bring these because they can last a long time.
4. Pre-Cooked Rice, I would bring some pre-cooked rice because it tastes nice and would last a decent amount of time.
5. Muesli Bars, I would bring muesli bars because they would last quite a while if they are left in their packaging.
6. Muffins, I would bring some muffins because they taste nice they might not last as long as the other foods but they are a nice snack.
7. Pre-Cooked Pasta, I would bring pre-cooked pasta because it is filling and it could last a while.
8. Oranges, I would bring some oranges because you need vitamin c and they would make a good breakfast snack.
9. Cucumbers, I would bring some cucumbers because they have water in them, they are good snacks and could last a while.
10. Cookies, I would bring some cookies because they can last a while without a fridge and they are a nice snack.

Fibonacci Exploration

First off I don't really understand Fibonacci in nature, but I can understand the stair case thing and how to get the numbers. To get the numbers you add the number before and the number you just got and add them together. If that doesn't make sense I'll try explain: 0 + 1 = 1, 1 + 1 = 2, 1 + 2 = 3, 2 + 3 = 5 & 3 + 5 = 8 and so on. If that doesn't make sense watch a video explaining Fibonacci. I tried to draw the pine cone that the girl in the video drew but it ended up looking like a flower and tried again. Mary & I helped each other and we both tried to draw the pine cone and failed but thats ok. How I drew the 'pine cone': At first I tried to follow the video and my 'spiral' looked like a bunch of scribbles. Then I drew a box marked out the 8 points to divide it by but instead drew an asterisks with 8 points and curved the lines. Then I made another asterisks with 5 points and drew the lines but curved them in the opposite direction of the other curves. Then I made a pattern inside that is supposed to look like a pine cone but ended up looking like a flower.
