Chapter Chat: Posted, Agrument against banning phones

Why we should keep phones
Phones are devices that have many uses, you can play games, use  social media, text people
and call people.
Now a days most kids in high school, or adults have phones.
Some people have phones for certain reasons that includes, business, entertainment
or just because they have one.

Three reasons for why we should keep phones include at break time it gives you something to do
, you can contact your parents after school and you can have fun during  class if its boring.

Giving you something to do at break time.
At school, you don't really have much to do. Sure you might have a playground,
but by the time you have a phone you will be sick of the playground.
Also people like to look at their phone, while talking to their friends.
So there is a good mix of being social and antisocial.

Contacting your parents after school.
If  you get picked up from school, it is important you  have contact with your parents incase
plans change or if they  are late. Imagine if you were supposed to go to a friends house,
and you  end up waiting outside school for hours.
The worst case scenario is that if you  don't have a phone

Having   fun during class when the teachers not looking.
In class if you already know that knowledge or you have finished you could sneak on your phone
. In school some classes can be extremely boring, and that's when the phone comes in.

Phones are new modern devices used often.
They should keep them in schools because if they need to contact their parents,
they can have fun during class and they can use them during break.
So you  should keep phones!

Summer Learning Journey

Activity:Imagine that you are a student in the 1980s and you’re about to graduate from high school. Where would you like to go on your big OE? On your blog tell us which country you would visit and give us three (3) reasons for your choice. Find some pictures on the internet of things that you would like to see and do in this country.

I would like to go to England, firstly because I would get to see buckingham palace in real life and maybe see the Queen, Secondly I would like to just drive round the country in England because when my mum went to England apparently you drive underneath the tree's and you are just surrounded by bush and it looks really cool. Thirdly I would like to go see the Big Ben and go to the London Eye because they look really cool in pictures and I would love to experience it in real life

Summer Learning Journey

One of the most famous children’s stories to ever come out of New Zealand, Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy, was written by a kiwi woman named Lynley Dodd. The book was originally published in 1983. It is now sold in dozens of countries around the world. It features a small dog named Hairy.

On your blog, use the following sentence starter from the original book to finish the story.

To earn full points, your story should have, at least, 8-10 sentences.

“Out of the gate and off for a walk went Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy, He walked along the sidewalk barking at each car that went pass. Hairy Maclary wondered on further and saw something in the bush! It was Hairy Maclary's friend Hurcules Morse and he was as big as a horse. Hairy and Hurcules went to the park, they had races and played. When Hairy Maclary and Hurcules Morse were having a break, Along came Scarface Claw He was the toughest in tom town. Hairy Maclary and Hurcules sprinted out of the park through a broken board in the fence and back to the sidewalk. They didn't want to get into trouble with any cats today. They looked at eachother with very exhausted faces, then continued to walk back. When they were about to part ways Bottomely Potts was across the road barking at them, Nobody could not see Bottomely Potts he was covered in spots, he ran across to them as they continued walking. Hurcles spotted a bird in the bush he was in before and went back there. Hairy Maclary and Bottomely Potts made it back to the dairy as they both parted ways. It was getting late now to Hairy Maclary went to sleep at Donaldson's Dairy.

Summer Learning Journey

Fashion in the 1970s was quite unique. Take a look at the pictures of a ‘typical’ 1970s outfit and tell us, on your blog, two things that you like about 1970s fashion and two things that you don’t like about the fashion of the day. I am not a huge fan of the patterned pants. What about you?

One thing I like about the fashion is that with the pants there is room for your legs to breath unlike other pants and how they are right  up against your skin and it  gets really hot.
Another thing I like about the typical 1970's fashion shirts with collars I think they look neat.
One thing I dont like about the fashion is  that the pants go all the way down past your shoes.
Another thing I dont like about the typical 1970's fashion is those patterned pants, thats just my opinion.

Summer Learning Journey

In the 1970s one of the most common television programmes was called ‘Ready to Roll.’ It was broadcast on Saturday afternoons and hosted by a man named Roger Gascoigne. During the show, Roger would introduce music videos and then play them for the TV audience. He also invited famous people to come onto the show and perform songs that were currently popular.

Watch the following three clips that were shown on the Ready to Roll programme:

When you have finished, rank the clips in order from your most favourite (#1) to your least favourite (#3).

Summer Learning Journey

Famous bands also started travelling across the world and in 1964, New Zealand hosted, arguably the most popular band of the time, The Beatles.

People were very excited to see The Beatles, and the hype around the band was known as Beatle-Mania (similar to the modern-day Bieber-Fever)!

Read about their tour of New Zealand below, and then post three interesting facts about The Beatles Tour on your blog.

1.There were 7000 screaming fans (most of them were girls).

2.One girl badly hurt her leg  trying to climb a wire fence,  two others were forced through the fence  from pushing behind.

3.There was a team of 30 police officers,  some in plain clothes.

Summer Learning Journey

Activity: In the 1960s there was a great deal of change in New Zealand. Technology was evolving and the television was introduced for the first time into New Zealand homes in the 1960s. Popular programmes included Town and Around and C’mon.  Television remains popular to this day.

What is your favourite television show at the moment? On your blog tell us about your favourite television show. What is it about? Who are the main characters? What channel is it on?

Summer Learning Journey (Bonus)

Activity: In the 1950s, most people communicated with one another by writing letters. According to the NZ history website, New Zealanders sent over 200 million letters and postcards between 1950 and 1960. That is an average of 87 letters per person! For this activity, imagine that you are living in New Zealand in the 1950s. Use Google Draw* to design the front of a postcard that you could send to a friend. Try to include elements of Kiwiana in your design (e.g. Pohutukawa trees, Hokey Pokey ice cream, etc). Post a copy of your postcard picture to your blog. Be sure to describe what you have drawn on your blog beneath the picture.

The features my postcard has is that New Zealand is in the colours of our flag. I have fish and chips on the beach with tomato sauce. There is a pavlova and L&P on the beach mat. There is a seagul, they are always on the beach waiting to steal your fish and chips. Then there is someone kayaking in the sea, inbetween  the flags with a life guard on watch.
