SLJ Week 3 Day 2 Activity 1: Through Careful Observation

For this activity, we would like you to select one of the pictures below and to study or observe it closely. What do you see?
On your blog, describe the painting in detail. What do you see when you look at it? Please give us as much detail as you can!

In this image I see two identical lands clashing with eachother. I see the birds from each side kind of merging and it looks like tessellation. It looks like two kingdoms, kind of like the good/light kingdom with the white and the evil/dark kingdom on the left. In the castles live the rulers of each kingdom, determined to invade/destroy the other side.

  1. Hi Bridget,

Wow, you have made some amazing observations! I love how you have interpreted this image, and you are right, it does look like a tessellation.

I like how you have described them as good and evil kingdoms, waiting to destroy one another. Even though they reflect each other, it is interesting how we feel different about the night side vs the day side.

I think this artist is pretty talented. Do you like this kind of painting? MC Escher was very good at creating images that mirror each other. They are almost like little mind puzzles.

    Take care,
    Beren
