SLJ Week 2 Day 5 Activity 1: Everyday Heroes

For this activity, please brainstorm at least five ways we could support the people who are affected by the fires in New South Wales, Australia. You could think of ways to raise money, things to send them, and ways to keep them feeling positive.
On your blog, share your brainstorm of ideas and create a video or audio recording of yourself explaining each idea.

  1.  On Social Media (if you have an account) share a post or hashtag to spread awareness about the fires.
  2. Donate Some Money, even if it is just a dollar.
  3. Do some fundraising like busking, a raffle or even just knock on peoples doors asking if they would like to donate.
  4. Donate items to people that have lost their homes.
  5. Get schools to make cards to make the firefighters and the victims of the fires feel a little bit better.

  1. Kia ora Bridget,

My name is Beren. I am blog commenter from the Summer Learning Journey team. I am here to help out Matilda with commenting on some of your blogs this week.

Wow, these are some great ideas for helping those affected by the Australian bushfires. I like your idea of sharing posts on social media to spread awareness. Hashtags are an effective (and easy) way to share information. Social media is a great tool for sharing facts!

For example, did you know that the fires have resulted in a lot of animals losing their homes? There is an organisation called Animal Rescue who are asking the public for blankets and protective pouches to provide for animals who have lost their homes. These can be donated through the ‘Animal Rescue Craft Guild’. A lot of people are knitting baby kangaroo pouches out of wool! How nice is that?

Donations are a great idea too, especially since a lot of the firefighters are volunteers.

Thanks for sharing your blog post Bridget, I enjoyed reading it :)

    1. Hi Beren, thanks for commenting on my blog!

I thought of the social media idea because lots of people are spreading awareness about the fires.

I do know that lots of animals are losing their homes and dying, it's really sad. But I didn't know about the organisation Animal Rescue, it's really nice and kind to see what people do for the animals.

Again thanks for commenting on my blog!

      -Bridget :)
