Summer Learning Jourey (9)

Activity: During this period, people struggled to find work both here at home and overseas. It was a really tough time for people living in the Great Plains of the United States because they were hit with a huge drought that lasted for most of the decade. Many crops were damaged and farmers were not able to make enough money to feed their families.

Imagine that you were alive in the 1930s. What could you have done to help these families? On your blog, list three different ways that you could raise funds for families to help them buy food and clothing. Be as creative as you can with your fundraising ideas!

1. I would run a local fundraiser and sit at a table all day and have great prizes and a catchy title and make sure its in a popular place.
2. I would give them some of our leftover supplies that are in good shape and still useful.
3. I would go out to their farm plant more seeds and other things and give them plenty of water.

  1. Hi Bridget

You have got some very good ideas. I especially like the one about planting seeds so they can grow their own food. They could then use this to feed themselves but also if they get a really good crop they could sell it at a market to buy other things that they need.
In the 1930's things would have been a lot different from our world today. People didn't have much and jobs were hard to find.
By having the seeds this could also create work for other people if the crops were big enough.

    Good ideas Bridget

    Until next time
