Summer Learning Journey #6 Weird and Wonderful

My Task: On your blog, tell us how to solve this maths problem. You can write your answer in words, use a Sketchpad image, or post a video explaining how you would figure it out. Be sure to give us your final answer in millilitres (ml).

Let’s imagine that you are given a cactus for your birthday. To keep it alive, you must give it 3 ml of water every day.
Over one full year, how much water will you need to give your cactus plant?
The Answer is 1095ml because
300ml x 3ml= 900ml
60ml x 3ml = 180ml
5ml x 3ml= 15ml
Then 900ml + 180ml + 15ml = 1095ml

  1. Hi Bridget

What a great way of presenting this activity. Imagine that you got a cactus for your birthday and now you have to look after it.
Three mils of water is not a lot of water but when you add it up over the entire year it comes to quite a bit.
Thanks for showing me your working out for this problem. It is always really good to show how you solved the problem.
My daughter has cactus plants in her room growing on the window sill. I am always very wary when I pull the curtains in there as some of them have massive sharp prickles on them!

I hope that you are having a great holiday so far and that you something fun planned.

    Keep up the great work!

    Until next time

    Allie :)
