Summer Learning Journey (Bonus)

Activity: For this activity, you are going to imagine that you are just like Dorothy and that you are working as a nurse on a large medical ship.

One day you are walking along the deck of the ship when you hear a loud bang. You start to run as you see smoke coming from the far end of the ship. You run towards the room where your patients are waiting to receive treatment from the doctor. Just as you arrive at the door to their room you hear another loud bang and you turn around. You see in the distance a small figure, but really its one of the enimies bigger boats. You run up to the edge of the boat as you see one of the nurses, she was missing and arm blood was coming out everywhere. You carried her to the where all the other patients are you put a towel over where her arm used to be. The boat landed back on shore you rushed everyone off the boat. Another loud bang rang out, the boats front had exploded the boat drifted off into deeper water and sunk slowly. You and the others that were feeling well went off not to far from shore to find a place they can make camp at and gather materials from. You and the others finished making the tents and mats. Everybody gathered around and kept warm. They had shifts of people staying awake and watching and sleeping. You were on the sleeping shift first then at midnight you were on watch. You woke up and everybody else up and got prepared for the days challenges.

  1. Hi Bridget

Well done, you have made a good effort with this piece of writing.
It would be very scary being a nurse during these times. The challenges that you would face each day would be nothing short of incredible.
It would be challenging working on a ship and not in a real hospital don't you think? It would be a very big responsibility taking care of all of those injured soldiers. I imagine that it would also be very sad.
Do you think you would like to be a nurse? What challenges do you think would be different from then until now?
The nurses were also very brave for doing their jobs under such hard and challenging times.

    Until next time

    Allie :)
