Work Interview Comment

Recently in class we have been interviewing people in the community about their work life. Today we interviewed Zak and Cameron's dad Jarred.

I think it was interesting how Jarred has done lots of volunteer work. I also thought it was interesting how he worked in the air force and how for work experience he blinked a fish eye puppet for a kids T.V show. I thought the story with the pot plant was funny as well. Jarred also mentioned that we should have technology, communication, leadship, and attiude skills for our working life.

Fair Trade Learning

At school recently we have been doing a lot of learning to do with Fair Trade. First off we started with learning what Fair Trade is. I learnt some new information about what happens in other countries. I can't believe kids my age are forced to work all day and get no education. We made fair trade poems in groups or on our own. I paired up with Tara for our poem, we did an accrostic poem. We looked at examples of Fair Trade poems and got some insparation off of them. We wrote down our poems on fair trade sacks using Indian Ink. When Karen was making the sacks flat, she found a few Fair Trade coffee beans! Along the way we also got to try some Fair Trade chocolate, looked at some Fair Trade packaging. Some people used stencils to write down their poem, others did it free hand. Also next time your at the supermarket try buy some Fair Trade items.
Here are some photos of Tara and I's poem.

Nutritionist Visit Reflection

Last week our class has had a nutritionist come and visit our class. Her name is Jessika Smaill and she talked to us about everyday foods, occasional foods, how to read labels, what vitamins different foods give us and lots more information. We had two lessons with her but I was only there for the first lesson. On Thursday we went to the supermarket with a pen and peice of paper and we had to find occasional cereals, muslie bars, dairy products, bread & snack foods. We also had to find everyday foods out of those catogories. After everyone was finished we went off to get items for our smoothies, my group had to get the dairy, one other group got the vegetables & the other group had to get the berries. At the end of the lesson we brought the items and had a final mini talk with Jessika and we all got free lunch boxes. Once we got back to school on Tuesday I made my smoothie, I put milk, mixed berry yogurt, mixed frozen berries, mango and pineapple. The smoothie tasted really nice and was healthy aswell. After the lesson I haven't bothered to change what I'm eating or eat healthier, but it is good to have that information in the back of my head.
